Writing
We have launched our opinion writing unit. Students are learning what opinions are and how important it is to have reasons for their opinions. We have begun by sharing our shoebox collections and picking our favorite. The variety of collections has been impressive and we are looking forward to continuing our work with the collections after break. In the meantime, if you child expresses an opinion (which I'm sure never happens) encourage him/her to explain why. The more convincing the reasons, the better.Guest Teachers
We have been visited by3 teachers that applied to be the new first grade teacher at EMES. Our class was amazing and took the job of providing feedback about the candidates very seriously. I was impressed by their thoughtful comments and ideas.SeeSaw App
After break I will am going to pilot the SeeSaw app as a method of sending photos and other work samples to families. This is an application that I recently learned about and have been considering using. I will send you a link to log into our class and to your child's virtual folder. As I begin exploring SeeSaw, I would appreciate your feedback both positive and negative about it as a form of communication.Discovery
We have begun a discovery unit on states of matter, most specifically water. This is a unit that will involve experiments and outside activities. If you are interested in joining us for some of the outside activities, please let me know. I am tentatively looking toward times on Wednesday mornings (10:15-11:40) and Friday afternoons (2:10-3:10) but these times may vary.
