In writing, we are beginning to learn about opinion writing. One of the activities we will be doing is "judging" our shoe box collections. A shoe box collection is a small collection of 5-6 related items (small enough to fit in a shoe box). For example, I brought in a collection of small horse figurines. The purpose of the task is to gain experience evaluating items and providing evidence for your reasons. Collections will not be compared to each other. Some items we discussed putting in a collection included: rocks, pine cones, small animal figures, match box cars and leaves. The collections will need to be at school for at least a week. So, please help your child to select items that can stay in the room. We will be careful with the collections but accidents do happen, please don't send items that are irreplaceable or perishable.
Collections should be brought in by Tuesday, April 10th. They will not be sent home until after April break.
