American Red Cross
On Tuesday, Rachel from the American Red Cross came to visit our room. The students told her about their fundraising project and how it came to be. Everyone was eager to share their part in the process. We presented Rachel with a check in the amount of $183.42! She presented us with a recognition certificate. We then had a special treat to celebrate our success.Time
In math class we have begun to learn how to tell time. In first grade, the biggest challenge for learning to tell time is typically identifying which hand tells the hours and which hand tells the minutes. We have been learning that the longer hand shows the minutes and the shorter usually wider hand, shows the hours. The expectation is that students will be able to tell time to the quarter and half hour. If you have an analog clock in your home, please encourage your child to practice telling time.Opinion Writing
We are well on our way to writing excellent persuasive opinion pieces. We have learned that opinions are more powerful when supported by reasons and that in order to convince our reader, they must be able to read our writing. This week we wrapped up our work with our shoe box collections and awarded Best in Show ribbons. Next week we will begin to explore the idea of reviews.
