As first graders, students are expected to correctly use upper and lower case letters while writing. We have begun to learn about the convention of using capital letters as the first letter in names. I am now expecting students to write their own names using only one capital letter (the first letter). If your child is writing his/her name outside of school, please help them to remember to use lower case letters for every letter except the first letter. As they write their name many times in the course of the day, the convention of using capital letters correctly is an important one to establish.
We have also been working extensively on the correct formation and orientation of the digits. You may have seen games such as Race and Record in your child's folder. You may notice some number reversals that are not corrected. If a child has many numbers that are reversed, I typically pick one digit for them to find and correct.
