Weekly Wrap-up, January 12, 2018

Wet Gear

Today was a very wet day outside at recess.  Many students were packing up wet gear and their library books.   I tried to seperate the books and the wet gear, but I might have missed a few bags.  Please check to be sure books are not left in backpacks with wet gear. This is one of the ways that books become damaged each year.

If the wet weather continues, you may want to send an extra set of dry clothing to school.  Almost everyone had wet socks after recess today.  Extra clothing can be left in hallway cubbies.

Communication Folders

Folders were sent home today and they were very full.  In the folders, you will find the letter from Mary Beth Langevin, lunch account statements, information on the Winter Wellness program, book orders and assorted pieces of student work.  Winter Wellness forms and book orders are due Friday, January 19th.

PE Lab

Our next PE Lab is scheduled for January 31st.  This will be a half day of outdoor winter activities and bonfire.  We are in need of drivers and chaperones.  If you are interested in joining us for this fun event, please let me know.

Animal Unit

Image result for animals free downloadWe are continuing to learn about animal groups and classification.  Many of the non-fiction texts that we are reading are focused on animals and their characteristics.  In addition to interesting facts, the class seems fascinated by the jokes and word play found in many of the books.  Perhaps you've heard this one:  "Why didn't the pony sing in the chorus?"  "Because he was a little horse."   or "What's a polar bear's favorite meal?" "Ice burgers"

As we continue with this unit, students will be working with a partner to become experts on their assigned group.   They will then be creating "trading cards" about animals within the group that they studied.  We will be sharing these projects and others at the Celebration of Learning in February.
