Book Buddies and More

Book Buddies
On Friday, we travelled to U-32 to meet with our 7th grade Book Buddies.  The seventh graders presented our students with beautiful picture books that they had written and illustrated.  These books represent the continuation of a long standing tradition in our school district.  The amazing amount of work and thought that went into creating these books was clearly evident.  The sharing of the books and the accompanying activities were enjoyed by all.

Telling Time
In math we have been learning to tell time.  The expectations for first graders include telling time to the quarter hour.  However many students are quickly becoming proficient at telling time to the 5 minute interval.  A large focus is recognizing the hour hand and the minute hand.  We have learned several songs to help remember which hand is which.  Telling time is a skill that requires a lot of practice for it to become automatic.  If you have an analog clock (one with hands) in your home, ask your child to tell time you the time or let them know that an activity will begin at a certain time.  The more meaningful experiences with time you child has, the easier it will become for him/her to retain the newly acquired skill.

Special Guests
Margo brought her bunny to school on Thursday afternoon for share.  Thanks to Megan and Margo's sisters Grace and Adeline for bringing their bunnies for our class to pet.

Field Trips
In Friday Folders you will find a combination field trip permission form for the ECO field trip to Mallory Brook and the field trip to Montshire Museum.

The Mallory Brook trip will be a walking field trip on Friday, June 2nd.  We will leave the school at approximately 9:30 and return in time for dismissal.  We will eat snack and lunch on the trail.  Everyone will need a water bottle that can be closed.  Please do not send glass or soda.  If you child would like to order a bagged lunch from the cafeteria, please let me know by Wednesday morning.  Students will need appropriate clothing and shoes for walking to Mallory Brook.  Please consider applying sunscreen and/or bug repellant to your child before school on Friday.

Our trip to the Montshire Museum of Science will take place on Monday, June 19th.  We will be travelling by bus.  We will leave school by approximately 9:15 and return in time for dismissal.  While at the museum, students will visit both the indoor exhibits and the outdoor exhibits.  Weather permitting, students may wish to have a bathing suit available for exploration of the outdoor water exhibits.

Summer Book Bags
Permission slips for the Summer Book Bag Program are due on Tuesday.  This is a wonderful chance for students to have books from the library for the summer.

Share
Due to the short week and scheduled ECO days, there will be no sharing next week.
