Happy 100th Day!
We are 100 days smarter and have had a 100 days of learning in first grade! We celebrated Thursday with a day full of special activities focused on the number 100. Some of the highlights for the students were: a writing piece "When I'm 100...", Trail Mix made of 100 items and building cup structures with 100 items. I will be posting pictures of our day in a different blog entry as this one is a little bit long.Thank you to everyone who contributed to the special snack. We had a great variety of items and the students really got to practice their counting skills. If you would like the unused portion of your contribution back, please let me know. If you don't want it back, I will save it for our next special snack.
Lice
We continue to deal with lice in our classroom. Lice has been shown to be more of a nuisance than a health hazard, however it is A LOT of work to eliminate from both the classroom and your home. In order to help decrease the risk of spreading lice from one student to another, please remind your child to not share any clothing, not to touch or allow others to touch his/her hair and to keep all items in cubbies. I'm also asking that NO stuffed animals or other cloth items be brought from home. I'm trying to educate the class without stigmatizing the children that are dealing with lice. Please contact Nurse Elizabeth if you have any questions or concerns regarding the treatment of lice.
Looking Ahead
We have a busy few weeks coming up. Below are some of the big events that will be impacting our schedule.
Winter Wellness Tuesdays~February 7, 14, 21.
All students will be participating in our EMES Winter Wellness Tuesdays. These afternoons begin at 12:45 and last until the end of the school day. It's important for students to remember any and all gear they need to make the most out of his/her chosen activity. At the end of each Wellness Tuesday, students will be dismissed by their Wellness leaders, so we won't see all of the kids at the end of the day, therefore "go home" plans for Tuesdays are especially important. Our February ECO times are going to be rescheduled, most likely to Friday mornings but this is still in the works. I'll let you know as soon as they are confirmed what the new dates are going to be.
EMES Food Drive~February 6-17
We'll be collecting food items for the local East Montpelier/Calais Food Shelf. If you can, we'd love you to help our class make a great contribution. Canned and boxed food is welcome. Items such as : peanut butter, tuna, soups, pasta, etc. are greatly appreciated.
Valentine's Day~Tuesday, February 14th
This is also a "Winter Wellness Day", so we will not be having a big celebration. We will have a small card exchange and a few special activities from 11:00 - 11:40. Students are welcome to bring in cards to exchange with classmates, we will send home a class list for cards you can also find it here. Sharing cards is totally optional, we just ask that if students choose to give cards, that there is one for each classmate.
I Love East Montpelier Day~Wednesday, February 15th
