In this week's folder, you will find several game boards and other pieces of work completed with the substitute. Although I have looked at all of the work, there are some items that are unfinished or uncorrected. If you would like your child to finish the work, he/she may do so at home but it is not necessary.

ECO
We had another exciting ECO session on Tuesday. We learned a new game called Migration and got to pretend to be Canada Geese migrating. As part of the game, we learned that Mrs. Fitch, Mrs. Parker and Angie are not quite as fast at tag games as the first graders. :D We also categorized items into living and non-living categories and enjoyed building in the woods. Some of the students had an opportunity to work with carving tools and saws. Those that did not have a chance, will have a turn during our next ECO session.
Mrs. Lyford visited our classroom and read to us. She read the story Stick and Stone. We then had a conversation about ways to be caring and to include others.
Literacy
During literacy we are continuing to build good reading habits and to practice the expected behaviors. We are working on setting goals; reading more and more; and our reading fluency. We are practicing reading smoothly and scooping up multiple words in one phrase.
Book Orders
Included in the communication folder is a Scholastic Book Order flyer. I will send these flyers home several times a year (usually every other month). It is not required that you order books for your child. The books in the flyer are typically appropriate for first grade readers. If your child is reading at a level typical of another grade, it is possible to order from different flyers, on-line. If you choose to order, you may order on-line or using the form. Our class activation code is DPB6G. Checks should be made payable to Scholastic. Orders are due October 3rd. Please let me know if you have any questions.
