Weekly Wrap Up

It has been a busy week in first grade.  The class is coming together as a community and developing an understanding of expectations and routines.  Several of the students have mentioned being tired or wanting a rest time.  We do not have rest time in first grade, so I am encouraging the kids to go to bed early and to be sure that they are eating healthy lunches to keep their energy level up.

Parent Information Night
It was a pleasure to meet and speak with families on Tuesday evening at Parent Information Night.  If you were unable to attend, I have included the handouts in your child's Friday Folder.  If you have any questions or would like more information about our day, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Play Doh
We are enjoying our time working with play doh.  However, we do have a shortage of play doh "tools".  If you have extra cookie cutters or rollers that you are no longer using, we would love to add them to our collection.

Class Expectations
This week we discussed the type of classroom community that we wanted and what we needed to make that happen.  The class then generated the list of expected behaviors for the year.

Our expectations follow the East Montpelier PBIS expectations of Safe, Respectful and Responsible.

Safe

  • KHFOOTY
  • Walk calmly
  • Help others

Respectful

  • Be nice
  • Help others
  • Listen
Responsible
  • Take care of materials
  • Pick up after yourself
  • Have 2 pairs of shoes

We also have the guidelines of the 3 Cares - Take care of yourself, take care of others, take care of the world.

This week we have really focused on whole body listening and using the appropriate voice level.

Read Aloud

We have read many fun books since the beginning of the year.  One of our current favorites is Groovy Joe Ice Cream and Dinosaurs.    There is an audio version of the story on-line.
